Copper Country Trail

Area-Wide

The Copper Country Trail is a National Scenic Byway and Michigan Heritage Route that follows the path of our prehistoric ancestors, captures the story of immigration in America, and tells of fabulous riches won and lost. Copper mines, ghost towns, rare flora and historic and cultural icons are readily found in this region of unique geologic history that is home to the Keweenaw National Historic Park. For specific information and driving tours, please visit the website.

Trail begins at the Portage Lift Bridge between Houghton & Hancock and travels north approximately 47 miles along US-41 to Copper Harbor. Best time to visit is late summer or early fall (color season), but there is plenty to see and do year-round in the Keweenaw.
